A Day On The River

With the shade temperature nudging 27 degrees, it was a perfect day for a paddle on the river, freshly swollen by Welsh rain. Tim and Jerry managed the trip in one car, using a bike to recover the vehicle after journey's end. Squadrons of swans, tricky eddies and whirlpools and the scenery rolling by made for a wonderful trip as ever.
A short paddling film inevitably followed
In the evening we listened to Luke and friends playing jazz, over a plate of chilli followed by white chocolate cake (yum!). Back to work tomorrow.

Hammock Time

After such a busy holiday and an excellent night out on Friday (private screening of 'Thelma and Louise' followed by a cowboy themed party for Maureen's 50th) we needed to relax a bit in the garden.

Samos

We had a fantastic week sailing in Mykali Bay on Samos: Arriving in time to order Greek salad in the taverna, we reclined by the pool for the afternoon. The stand-out trip was to Kokkari, a picture perfect harbour town where we swam, wandered and enjoyed Greek hospitality as we watched the world go by.

We also visited Pythagoria and the statue of her famous son: Pythagorus himself the Ionian Greek philosopher and mathematician. Selecting the pedalo for the regatta was a tactical error in that we never actually crossed the start line in 3 races! However, all disappointment was soon banished after crepes and iced coffee.
With the winds building all week, the rusty windsurfing began to improve and we got out on the harnesses on the Dart 16 for some full-speed action. Claire finally braved some days at full pelt - and loved it! The week finished with red flag days and finally a white flag day where Jerry was only allowed out with little sails (lest he disappear across to Turkey at a rate of knots).
Some of the best pics are can be viewed as a slideshow, which hopefully captures something of the turqouise water, the bright flowers and the backdrop to one of our best holidays ever. The contrast between the slow pace of everything else and the watersport mayhem was just perfect. Thanks to everyone at Richmond who made us so welcome.

Half Term in Cornwall

The week started out blowy through the bank holiday, making for bracing walks and some trips out. On Sunday evening we all enjoyed a brilliant supper at The Seafood Restaurant in St Ives (everyone was in on it except Luke as it was his birthday bash #2). With everyone else departing on Monday, Jerry and Claire stayed for another week: We visited Trellisick Garden and Godolphin House. On early morning surf session, Jerry was joined by a seal for an hour - just him, a large marine predator and 3 miles of sandy beach! On a balmy weekend, we took the ferry from Falmouth across the water to St Mawes castle, to watch the start of the once-every-four-years Race to The Azores. Afterwards, there was Gig racing too. Video of St Mawes
